Growing Wild Plums Book

Growing Wild Plums – Barn Clouds Drawing

This painting has stayed in my mind and worked itself out over some time. I’ve been trying different designs to combine my Lupita paintings with my childhood memories. This one felt different as soon as I drew it. I’m excited!

About the series:

My new artwork series is a meditation on my childhood growing up off-the-grid in rural Iowa. My goal is to write a children’s book using this series of 20 paintings as the illustration for the book. Thank you to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation – BeWildReWild – Community Artist Grant for your generous support of my project.

Blessings,

Emily Lupita

  1. This is new and bold… you are playing with two planes… and the figure, Lupita, is striking a pose. Defiance, pride, mystery. Can’t wait to see the colors!
