The View from my Art Desk – Turkish Art Pendants – Friends & Family First Pick – Reserve by Thursday

The view of my art desk this week is filled with bright colors from my new collection of Turkish artwork pendants. They will be up in my online shop for just a few days…until Thursday evening, November 20th.

The designs inside the pendants are beautiful Turkish gilded artwork. I then encased the art under glass and made them into pendants.

I also have brand new square pendants! I think these are just lovely and unique.

And the very first pieces of my “Geometric” collection – made from my abstract watercolor artwork – are finished as well. These are super bright and happy.

I’m offering my readers first pick of these cool pendants. If you see one you love, please reserve in my online shop by Thursday evening, November 20th.

Once a pair is reserved, I will take it off the list and there will never be another one exactly like it. On Friday I’ll be sending them to the fabulous new Nite Gallery opening in my hometown of Albia, Iowa.

New Turkish Artwork Earrings – 2 Day Reserve Sale

The View from my Art Desk – New Turkish Artwork Earrings – 2 Day Reserve Sale

I just finished a new collection of handmade art earrings and I’ve fallen in love with them. I feel like this is my most beautiful collection yet.

DSC_0694

The designs inside the earrings are amazing Turkish gilded artwork that I found while wondering around inside the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. I matched the different designs up in pairs, then encased the art under glass and fixed them into earrings.

I want to give my readers first pick of these beauties – if you see one you love, please reserve at this link in my online shop by Monday evening, November 3rd. Once a pair is reserved, I will take it off the list and there will never be another one exactly like it.

Turkish Earrings Choices

The reason for the quick, 2 day only reserve sale is that on Tuesday I’ll be taking the collection of earrings over to the fabulous store, The Local Exchangelocated on the Historic Marietta Square in Marietta, Georgia. The earrings (and my Christmas ornaments & Christmas cards) will will be available for the holiday season there starting with their Holiday Open House this Friday.

These will be a bit hard to let go of…I may have to give each one a hug goodbye.  (I had a moment where I thought maybe I’d tuck them all away in my own jewelry box.) But what I love the most about making art is being able to share it – and sharing these bright, beautiful Turkish artwork earrings with you is a little dream come true.

Evolution of a Giant Butterfly

View from my Art Desk – Evolution of a Giant Butterfly:

My art desk was overflowing with a giant Lupita butterfly painting that barely fit on my easel.

IMG_5229

I made this butterfly drawing back in the Spring in my sketchbook and recently had the sudden notion to just start drawing it on this massive piece of watercolor paper.

IMG_5242

It was fun choosing the color scheme and filling in the jazzy collection of shapes.

IMG_5243

I started with blue as my main color, then added pink, green, yellow and orange – all in typical Lupita fashion.

Here it is all framed and on display at the MSAA Gallery…the biggest butterfly I’ve made yet.

“Lupita World” Art Series

This Week At Emily Lupita Studio – The View From my Art Desk:

I have a new set of watercolor paintings rolling out…I’m calling it the “Lupita World” Art Series.

Emily Lupita Studio artist Emily Lupita watercolor painting
Lupita Hugs the World

The series is made up of 15 paintings – all featuring my Lupita world & made with extra bright Irodori antique palette watercolors.

Lupita Gives the Gift of Peace

My idea with this series was to create a group of paintings that all have a similar feeling and energy about them, focusing in on one design aspect (the globe), while still maintaining a sense of individual uniqueness.

Lupita Hugs the World

As I progressed, somewhere around my 7th or 8th painting, the process became more like meditation for me.

Lupita Hugs the World – Stars

By repeating the design, I gained confidence that I knew how to draw it – really knew it (especially around my 11th & 12th painting) and that freed me to think more creatively about the designs inside the kimonos.

And I started experimenting more with color, resulting in my very first “golden” Lupita. The combination of gold, browns, and a pale antique blue…I had never tried it before & I ended up just falling in love with it.

The original paintings in this series will be showing at the MSAA Gallery until the end of August. Stop by to see them displayed in matching white gallery frames – they look so wonderful all together on the wall.

You can shop for an original custom made painting from this collection, plus many more art prints and cards in my online Art Shop.

The Evolution of Emily Brontë

This Week At Emily Lupita Studio ~ The View From My Art Desk

I decided to try something new – watercolor portraits of women writers I admire. My first portrait is an homage to Emily Brontë,  the English novelist and poet, best remembered for her only novel, the classic, Wuthering Heights.

My starting inspiration was the Humbert Portrait, which is from an unknown artist of the mid-19th century.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First step – drawing the portrait out in pencil. I wanted it to be similar to my inspiration, but in my own style. I gave her a pair of my favorite earrings and a modern hair style (and added highlights to the hair later as well.)

DSC_0078

Next I made a digital illustration from the pencil drawing, playing around with color. I added in an Emily Brontë quote I love.  (For a zoom-able version that’s easier to read, visit it in my Etsy shop ~ here.)

Emily Bronte Quote Wuthering Heights

Once I had the colors as I liked them, I went back to the pencil drawing and started the watercolor process.

DSC_0080

There are 6 different colors in her face alone. The hair has around 8 different shades.

DSC_0098

This style is what I call my “fashionista” style because it’s similar to illustrations for fashion design. It’s a completely different technique than my usual Lupita style of painting. Also using a different paper that absorbs the water much faster than my usual cold press paper.

And here she is, my first watercolor portrait of a woman writer I admire. Maybe the first & only…maybe the first of many.

Evolution of an Owl

The View From My Art Desk

I’m working on a new series of owl paintings. I wanted to share the evolution of how I develop a painting. First I sketch out the basic ink drawing several times to get the design I’m envisioning in my mind. I use sketch paper and go through piles & piles!

Sweet Owl 1Then I add in special aspects like crowns, bubbles, stripes and flowers to give the design the light-hearted character I try to have in all my Lupita paintings.

Sweet Owl 2

Once the design is all set, I draw it on watercolor paper and start the color selection.

Owl 1

I love to combine unexpected colors and I try to always use a touch of bright pink.

3 OWLS 5_Ink DrawingAnd here she is – my first owl painting. I’m calling it “Sweet Owl” and hope to make a few more Lupita Owls over the next couple of days. 3 Sweet Owl_ETSY 1

This painting is now up in my online Art Shop ~ here  and I hope to take it in to the MSAA Gallery later on this week.

Sending wishes for a beautiful day,

~Emily Lupita
