Artist & Author Bio
Emily Lupita is an award-winning Mexican-American artist & author working out of her studio at The Hummingbird House. She paints, writes & illustrates books, and designs jewelry & surface patterns from her unique & brightly-colored artwork.
Emily Lupita’s books include “The Artist’s Alphabet: 26 Words to Encourage Creativity” and “Wonderful You: A Book of Art & Encouragement.”
She is currently working on her next project – Growing Mexican Plums – an illustrated children’s book about her multicultural childhood in rural Iowa. This book project is funded by a grant from the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
Emily Lupita’s unique style is a combination of traditional aspects of her Mexican heritage and her Iowa roots. She also includes influences from her many years living abroad in diverse locations such as Turkey, Ecuador, Japan, and Wales.
Emily Lupita has been a working artist since 2004 and has shown her artwork & jewelry at hundreds of art shows and festivals around the United States. She has shown her work at galleries and has given readings of her books in Iowa, Atlanta, and Japan. Emily currently has work available for purchase by request.
Emily Lupita has a Bachelor of Arts from Central College and a Master of Fine Arts from Iowa State University. She’s been writing a blog about her artwork journey for many years at http://www.EmilyLupitaStudio.com .
Emily Lupita lives in the great Atlanta Metro area with her husband and their two young sons, nicknamed the Captain and Admiral. Both of Emily Lupita’s sons are diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and non-verbal Autism. She works from her home studio so she can care for the boys full-time, and writes a blog about the joys and challenges of their daily life on Facebook at http://www.Facebook.com/AutismBrothers .
