Week 21 – A Year of Flowers 2015 – Custom Watercolor

A Year of Flowers 2015 РWeek 21 at Emily Lupita Studio

This week I’ve been working on an original watercolor to match my custom illustration design I made during Week 16. The two mediums are so different, and I do love them both. This is the Irodori Japanese watercolor version – you can see how the hues in the color really stand out.

The original watercolor & ink painting is now hanging in the Marietta Square Artist’s Attic up on the Historic Marietta Square. Art Walks are the first Friday of every month all summer long and a great chance to stop by and see the famous chicken in person.

This newest painting¬†is “Lupita with Daisies in Her Hair” and I love the expression on her face. Is she thinking of a long, faraway love? Is she about to laugh? Or cry? I don’t know…it’s a mystery and that’s what I like.

Week 11 – A Year of Flowers 2015 – “Modern Trees”

A Year of Flowers 2015 РWeek 11 at Emily Lupita Studio

I feel like this is a good time to take a look at where I’ve traveled so far this year with¬†my A Year of Flowers art project.¬†These are the first 10 paintings I’ve made during the first 10 weeks of 2015.

Weeks 1-6 A Year of Flowers
Weeks 1-6 A Year of Flowers
Weeks 7-10 A Year of Flowers
Weeks 7-10 A Year of Flowers

My Week 11 painting features flowering trees in a cool, crisp modern style. Something different!

I used Sakura ink & antique Irodori Japanese watercolors to paint the flowering trees, then added a background of handmade Japanese paper to create this art print.

Follow Your Dreams Project

This Week @ Emily Lupita Studio:

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted here on my studio blog and I have several exciting things to share. Returning readers will notice the new look to the website featuring designs from my newest art project.

The path is still taking shape, but I wanted to share some of my first designs for what I’m calling my “Follow Your Dreams” project. I chose this name because this was the very first design I made. It was inspired by my wonderful niece and her love of archery.

My last big art project, The Artist’s Alphabet book, took me more than a decade to finish. I’m hoping this new project won’t take me soo soo long…but I know it will be an extended journey so I wanted to be sure it is filled with things I love.

That’s why¬†I took some time to really focus on developing my ideas for what I want this new art adventure to look like.¬†Of course, when I think of loveliness…my two mini dogs immediately come to mind and I made a design featuring them next.

¬†The designs are made from my original ink drawings. This one below of the mountains came together all at once while listening to Deepak Chopra’s meditations. When I felt the peaceful flow of this design I somehow knew I was headed in the right direction.

Reflect. I framed this one and put it on my desk to remind me about my desire to reflect my inner artist as I develop this new project.

I’m excited to start this new journey and grateful to have you as my companion.¬†Starting something new gives me butterflies…

Sending happiness,
